This session will explain some technical details of aggregations and what architecture of the underlying backend serves what use case best

Abstract
Microsoft released a significant feature to enable and manage the high-performance analysis of large amounts of data in an easy way by implementing Aggregations in Power BI (Power BI Desktop Release October 2018). 
 
This feature is well known and used as an essential performance optimization feature of Analysis Services Multidimensional. Compared to this, the Aggregations available in Power BI offers a much more user-friendly and intuitive way of approaching this goal. But is this feature as powerful as the "mighty brother"? And is the handling still as easy under some closer inspection?
 
This session compares the Aggregations feature between both Analysis Services engines, similarities and differences will be emphasized. In addition, architectural approaches for implementing Aggregations in Power BI will be explained. The strengths and weaknesses of different services and components will be highlighted for building a holistic analytical solution.
